Now that you are expecting, there are many things you want to do around your home to protect baby and ensure that your home is baby friendly. This includes taking a close look at how well protected your home is. The safer your home, the better peace of mind you will have when bringing your newborn home from the hospital. Here are three home safety tips to consider:
Install a Security Gate
One thing that many people don't consider is a security gate that leads to their backyard or even the front entrance of their home. If you have a fenced in front yard already, then consider replacing the current entrance gate with a security gate. This will have a coded alarm on it so that no one can actually get to the front entrance of your home without knowing that code. If your front entrance is not fenced in, you should consider it. This way, you can play with baby safely in the front yard. However, if you want to keep your front yard open, you can still install a security gate for the backyard fence so that no one can get into your backyard without the code.
Install a Home Security System
Along with the security gate, you should also consider a whole home security system that is attached to it. This way, if any of your windows or doors are compromised, you are going to know about it. Plus, the alarm that is triggered should be enough to prevent potential burglars from even continuing to make their way into your home. The visual sign of a home security system alone should deter them, as well.
Consider a Pet Dog or Just Pet Dog Signs
When expecting, a dog can actually provide you with some peace of mind because of their ability to deter thieves, as well. When a potential thief knows there is a dog in the home, they know that their chances of not being caught are significantly less, especially if the dog happens to be aggressive. Since you will have a small child at home, though, you should choose a family-friendly dog breed that is easy to train, but still aggressive enough to be wary of strangers. If you aren't comfortable with a dog at home though, you can always ask your home security company to provide you with "beware of the dog" signs, which are misleading, but effective.
When you consider these three home safety tips during your pregnancy, you can be sure that you are prepared to bring your newborn home without any doubt that he or she is safe in your own home.
